Professional Biography

Professor Dr. Maurits van Rooijen is the Group Rector and Chief Academic Officer of Global University Systems (GUS), and the Rector of the University of Europe for Applied Sciences.

Prof. van Rooijen is a globally recognized leader in international education and university management. He has held visiting and honorary appointments at universities worldwide, specializing in sustainable urbanisation.

Award-Winning Leadership

Recipient of the Constance Meldrum prize for Vision and Leadership (EAIE 2012) and the Golden Insignia of Universidad Santiago de Compostela.

Global Governance

Long-serving co-chairman of WACE and former President of the Compostela Group of Universities (2008-2016).

Since the mid-90s, he has been a stalwart of the European Access Network (EAN), the only global organization dedicated exclusively to advancing access and widening participation in higher education.

High-level strategic impact: In addition to his leadership at GUS and UE, he serves as the Chairman of IBAT College Dublin and GISMA Germany, overseeing transformative academic strategies across multiple borders.
